Jeong is a Korean-learning app made by Lycon Inc. ("we", "us"), a company in the Republic of Korea. This policy explains what information we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it. We wrote it in simple English, because many people using this app are reading in a second language.
This policy applies to the Jeong app for iPhone and iPad. We follow the Korean Personal Information Protection Act and the other laws that apply to us.
We only collect what the app needs to work. Please do not type things into the chat that you would not want to share, such as ID numbers, bank details, health information, or other people's personal information.
| Why we use it | What we collect | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Your account: sign-in, knowing who you are, keeping your account safe, deleting it | An account ID; an account token used only to link App Store purchases to your account; your email address (only if you sign in with Apple or Google — with Apple's "Hide My Email" we get a private relay address) | Until you delete your account |
| Your profile and lessons at your level | What the characters call you (the name you chose — a nickname is fine); the language, Korean level, character, and voice you chose; your reason for learning | Until you change it or delete your account |
| Saving your learning progress so it follows you to a new device | The cards you learned and your review and practice history; how your relationship with each character has grown; short notes the characters remember about you; short summaries of each episode; the Korean words and expressions you met, with the line where you first saw them; your streak and reminder time | Until you delete your account |
| Talking with the story characters (AI) | What you type or say in an episode, and the recent lines of that conversation — see Use of AI Services | Our server does not store it. It is passed to the AI service and thrown away after the reply is made. The full conversation is saved only on your device. |
| Your permission for AI | Whether you agreed to share data with the AI services, and when | Until you delete your account |
| Choco and purchases: your balance, stopping the same purchase from counting twice, refunds | Your Choco balance; a record of each purchase, each gift, and each episode you opened; the App Store product and transaction ID; your subscription status, if you have one | Until you delete your account. After that we keep only the transaction ID and its date, with nothing that points to you, so the same purchase cannot be added again. |
| Fair use limits for the AI and the voices | How many AI calls and voice characters you used today — a count only | Replaced every day; deleted with your account |
| News about the next story (only if you tap Notify me) | That you asked, and when; we send the email to your account's email address | Until you delete your account. Every email has a link to stop them. |
| Understanding how the app is used, so we can make it better | Usage events: which screens you open, starting and finishing episodes, purchases, practice problems you report. They carry your account ID, an episode code, your language, level, and character, and your device model, iOS version, and app version. Never your name, email, or anything you typed or said. We turned off location from IP addresses. | Kept by Mixpanel for 2 years |
| Keeping the service running and safe, and fixing problems | Server logs: the time, which address of our server was called, the result, how long it took, your account ID, and the network address (IP) of the request. Never the text of what you said. | 30 days |
| Answering your questions | What you write to us by email. If you report a problem from Profile ▸ Contact us, the email is filled in with your account ID, device model, and app version — you can read and change it before you send it. | Until your question is solved, unless the law asks us to keep it longer |
We never see your card number or any payment details. Apple handles payment.
The characters' lines are written by AI while you play, and many of their voices are made by AI. To do this, the app sends data through our server to two AI companies:
| AI company | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Gemini API) | Writes the characters' replies, the reply ideas you can tap, the short episode summaries, and the practice scenes and explanations | What the characters call you; what you type or say, and the recent lines of the conversation; what the characters remember about you (notes and short summaries of your earlier episodes); your Korean level and language; the words and expressions used in practice |
| ElevenLabs | Turns text into voice | The text of the line to be read: a character's line, a practice line, or your own line or saved word when you tap to listen. Not your account ID, name, or email. |
Before your first episode, the app shows you what is sent and who receives it, and asks for your permission. Nothing is sent to Google Gemini or ElevenLabs until you agree. You can turn this off at any time in Profile ▸ AI data sharing. After that, nothing more is sent, and you cannot play episodes until you turn it on again, because the characters cannot answer without it. Practice you already have keeps working.
Both companies work for us under data processing agreements. They may only use your data to do the job for us, and they must protect it at least as well as this policy does.
AI writes the lines as you play, so a line can sometimes be wrong, sound unnatural, or be unsuitable. The same words from you can get different replies. If you see a line that is wrong or offensive, please tell us at ask@lycon.kr and we will look at it. The AI is used only for the story and for practice. It never makes decisions about you, and the relationship with a character is a part of the game, not a judgment of you.
When you speak, iOS turns your speech into text. Whenever your device can do this by itself, it does, and nothing leaves your phone. If it cannot, iOS sends the audio to Apple to turn it into text; we never receive it. The recording is deleted from your device right after it is used. We do not keep any audio, and we never record, copy, or reuse your voice.
We do not sell your personal information, show ads, use advertising trackers, or track you across other apps or websites. We do not give your personal information to others. We use the companies below to run the app. Each one only gets what it needs for its job, works under a contract that limits what it may do with the data, and must protect it at least as well as this policy does.
| Company | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Google LLC — Firebase and Google Cloud | Your account and sign-in, saving your progress, running our server, server logs |
| Google LLC — Gemini API | Writes the characters' replies and practice (see Use of AI Services) |
| ElevenLabs | Turns lines into voice (see Use of AI Services) |
| Mixpanel, Inc. | Measures how the app is used |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Stores and delivers the course's pictures and voices. It receives the request, not your account. |
| Apple Inc. | Sign in with Apple, App Store payments and refunds, turning speech into text |
We may also share information when the law requires it, or when it is needed to protect someone's life or safety.
We are a Korean company, and the companies above run their services in other countries. So your data is sent outside Korea, over encrypted connections, when you use the app. We do this because the service cannot work without it.
| Who receives it | Country | What | When | How long they keep it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google LLC (Firebase, Google Cloud) | United States and other countries where Google has data centers | Account ID, email, sign-in data, your progress, server logs | When you sign in, use the app, and save progress | Until you delete your account. Google removes sign-in data from its backups within 180 days after that. Logs: 30 days. |
| Google LLC (Gemini API) | United States and other countries where Google has data centers | What is listed for Google under Use of AI Services | Each time a character replies, and when practice is made | Up to 55 days, only for abuse checks and the law |
| ElevenLabs | United States | The text of the line to be read | Each time a line is turned into voice | Kept in our account's history until deleted |
| Mixpanel, Inc. | United States | Usage events with your account ID | While you use the app | 2 years |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | United States and other countries where Cloudflare has servers | The download request (no account information) | When course content is downloaded | Not kept by us |
| Apple Inc. | United States and other countries | Sign-in data, purchase and refund data, speech audio when the device cannot turn it into text by itself | When you sign in, buy, or speak | See Apple's privacy policy |
You can refuse these transfers by not using the feature or by deleting your account. If you turn off AI data sharing, nothing more goes to Gemini or ElevenLabs, but you cannot play episodes. Without Google's services, the app cannot keep your account.
We keep each kind of information only for the time shown in the table in section 1.
When you delete your account (Profile ▸ Account ▸ Delete account), we delete everything listed in section 1 from our servers right away, along with your sign-in account. The data on your device is cleared too, along with any Choco left in your account. A few things are not deleted at once:
The full, line-by-line text of your conversations in the episodes is saved only on your phone or iPad. It is never uploaded to our servers, so if you delete the app or switch devices, it does not come with you. The short summaries and notes in section 1 do follow your account.
If you start as a guest (by tapping "Later"), we create an account with no email or name attached. If you delete the app before connecting it to Apple or Google, that account — with its progress and Choco — cannot be brought back.
Jeong is not for children under 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If we learn that a child under 14 has created an account, we will delete it. If you think this has happened, please write to us.
You can:
We may update this policy as the app changes. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page.
